Green Bay, WI - Mid Terms

In November 2016, I had a hard time accepting the fact that the American people chose Donald Trump to be president - it's called democracy. My advice then to myself: “Fill out a 'Hurt Feelings Report' and let's move on.” It will be just four years, and this too shall pass, I reasoned. I wish it had been so simple.

As Shawna and I head north today to the Michigan Upper Peninsula, Republicans are scrambling to stop the bleeding. Michigan is considered a battle ground state in the Democrats 2026 mid-term attempt to win back control of the Senate. Six months ago, the Upper House was considered by Republicans as safe, secured by Trump loyalist who gladly surrendered their oversight power of an Executive Branch hell bent on ignoring the rule of law.
Today, America is on a direct collision course with itself. Partisan politics have ripped the nation apart from within. History seeks out patterns. And in many ways, Donald Trump is a very easy read, because he operates in certain ways, never varies. He is the King of Distraction, a master of how to manipulate the truth. He makes no attempt to hide his impulsiveness and even admits enjoying the chaos he has orchestrated.
Trump, on the 2024 campaign trail, boasted if voters put Sleepy Joe Biden out and he in, Trump would lower prices, tame inflation and end the Ukraine Russian conflict - all on day one. Then at the end of February 2026, the Donald took a late Friday night phone call from his Israeli friend Bebe. Suddenly, Iran was giving the middle finger to the world’s economy. And six months later, with $7 a gallon diesel, the mid-terms are looming and the almost certainty of a third Trump House of Representative Impeachment.
This election, two weeks from tomorrow, we have been told incessantly for weeks now by the national media shrill; will be the most definitive mid-term elections in our lives. Until Trump’s impulsive decision to bomb Iran, with no end game plan and ignoring the advice of both his vice-president and his secretary of state, Trump’s pragmatic supporters took a Machiavelli approach - look at my 401IK so his corruption and self-dealing grifting methods are secondary and of no concern. That no longer flies. It is the economy, stupid.
Today, Trump’s disapproval ratings hover around an cartoonishly record low of under 30%. DJT is no longer viewed by most Americans as a tribune of the people, but as a huckster - a con artist who seeks to profit from them.
But the discourse that awaits in Marquette, Michigan is for tomorrow. Tonight, we will camp in the shadows of the Frozen Tundra of the Green Bay Packer’s Lambeau Field.
